3 Instagram DM automations that keep selling while you sleep

You post a reel at 9pm. By morning there are comments asking "link?", DMs asking what it costs, and a few story replies you never saw. Most of those people were ready to buy last night. By the time you answer, they have moved on.

Three automations fix most of that. Here is what each one does, and how to set all three up by asking Claude instead of clicking through a builder.

1. Comment to DM

Someone comments a keyword on your post, like GUIDE or LINK, and the link lands in their DMs a few seconds later. A short public reply goes under their comment too ("Sent you a DM 📩"), so everyone scrolling sees that commenting gets them something.

That public reply is why this one matters most. Every comment pushes the post to more people, and the reply invites the next comment.

You can limit it to one post or let the keyword work on all of them. Limiting it to one post stops a word like "DM" from firing on comments that just happen to use it.

2. Answers to the questions you get every day

Prices, links, "how do I start?", "do you ship to Canada?". You answer the same ten questions every week.

You write a playbook once: what you sell, your links, your FAQs, your tone and the topics a human should handle. Your MyClawBots agent answers DMs from it, in your voice. You pick how much it does on its own:

Mode What happens
Off Only your automations reply. Everything else waits for you.
Approval The agent drafts each reply and you approve it in MyClawBots before it goes.
Autopilot The agent replies on its own and hands the topics you listed to you.

Start on Approval for a week. Read what it drafts, fix the playbook where it gets something wrong, then switch to Autopilot.

3. Story replies

Someone replies to your story, or just taps a quick emoji reaction, and they get a DM straight away: a thank-you, a link, or your latest reel sent as a post card. You can choose to answer reactions only, written replies only, or both.

A story reply is someone who is already paying attention. Answering in seconds instead of hours is the difference between a conversation and a seen-zone.

Set it up by asking Claude

MyClawBots connects to Claude (and other AI apps) as a connector, so you can describe the automation in plain words and Claude builds it.

  1. Connect Instagram to MyClawBots

Sign in at myclawbots.ai, open Connectors and connect your Instagram professional account. Then open Automations and turn DMs on for that account.

  2. Add MyClawBots to Claude

In Claude, add a custom connector with this address and sign in when asked:

    Connector URL
    https://mcp.myclawbots.ai/mcp

  3. Ask for the comment automation

    Comment to DM
Set up a DM automation on my Instagram: when someone comments GUIDE on my latest reel, DM them "Here's the guide you asked for" with a button to https://example.com/guide, and reply under their comment with one of: "Sent you a DM 📩", "Check your DMs!", "Just sent it over 🙌". Show me exactly what it will do before you turn it on.

  4. Ask for the playbook

    FAQ playbook
Write my Instagram DM playbook. I sell [what you sell] to [who]. Prices are at [link]. The questions I get most are [list them with your answers]. My tone is [short, friendly, no emojis, etc.]. Hand anything about refunds or custom orders to me. Show me the playbook before saving it.

  5. Ask for story replies

    Story replies
When someone replies to or reacts to my Instagram story, DM them "Thanks for watching! Here's my latest reel" and share my most recent reel with it. Show me what it will do before turning it on.

Claude creates every automation switched off and shows you what it will send. It only turns one on after you say yes. You can also change or switch them off any time under Automations in MyClawBots.

What it does not do

  • It works on Instagram professional accounts (business or creator). Facebook Page Messenger support is rolling out separately.
  • It never cold-DMs anyone. Every message answers something the person did first.
  • Anyone can opt out. If someone replies STOP, the automations and the agent stop messaging them.
  • There is a monthly cap per plan: 1,000 automated DMs on Lite, 5,000 on Pro, 25,000 on Max, and 5,000 per seat on Team.
  • Claude sets things up, it does not read your DMs. Customer messages stay between your account and your MyClawBots agent.

Start with one

If you set up only one, make it comment to DM on your next reel. End the reel with "Comment GUIDE and I'll send it to you", turn the automation on before you post, and check Automations the next morning to see how many people it reached and how many clicked.
